On Friday, May 25, 2018 just minutes after 9:00 a.m., a seventh grade male student asked to be excused from class. He was granted permission but returned with two handguns and started firing. He seriously wounded one female student and shot the teacher, Jason Seaman, a seventh grade science teacher. In the process of being wounded, Seaman heroically subdued the armed student and prevented any additional injuries. The student was apprehended. His name is withheld because of being a minor. The teacher was wearing a tee shirt that said, “I Teach Because of You.”

Both teacher Seaman and the student were hospitalized. The student was in critical condition by stabilized. Seaman was later released. It was clear, according to multiple authorities, that Seaman placing his life at risk to save children prevented deaths and additional injuries.
