Cincinnati, Ohio Fifth Third Bank Shooting

Description:

At approximately 9:11 am on Thursday, September 6, 2018,  29-yr-old Omar Enrique Santa Perez walked into the lobby of the Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio armed with a 9mm handgun and started firing at anyone he saw. In addition to the handgun, Perez was carrying at least 250 rounds of ammunition, including hollow point bullets that inflict considerably more damage when compared to typical ammunition. The shooting lasted approximately 5 minutes and was ended when Perez was shot in the head with a shotgun blast from one of the four responding police officers. During the shooting spree, Perez killed 3 and seriously wounded 2, including the Vice President of the bank who survived after being shot 12 times.

According to family, Perez had a troubled past and was violent and mentally ill. They had tried to have him committed to a mental health facility on at least two occasions. No known ties to the bank have been reported.
